Home Based Rehabilitation Training
VACD registered children come from financially depressed households in Sri Lanka and cannot afford regular specialist therapeutic sessions which are hard to find or simply not available in the area.
Home based rehabilitation training programs empower and train parents to effectively meet the special needs of their children on a daily basis. The inconvenience and expense of having to travel to seek therapy would not be an added burden to the family.
Qualified and trained experts (who are VACD's collaborative partners to whom we need to provide accommodation and travel) will conduct initial assessments of each child and an individual intervention plan for the future is created. The caregivers are then trained to provide the required therapy to their own children on a daily basis.
This program caters to children who are not able to access rehabilitation services like special education, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, vision therapy or communication therapy on a daily basis.
The program starts with formation of parent to parent support groups, training the parents/carers in their groups according to the special needs of their children, discussing the home based therapy, which will be followed by regular home visits to help the extended family participate in the progress of the child.
Your kind donation will assist us to fund this training and will empower parents to play a more proactive role in the child's program and in handling societal pressures.
The workshops will be conducted by:
