Special Olympics Australia
Special Olympics Australia is a not-for-profit organisation that provides regular sports training, competition opportunities and development programs for people with an intellectual disability across Australia.

Every 2 hours, a child in Australia is diagnosed with an intellectual disability. We work on a holistic approach to support a better life physically and mentally, offering the athletes a welcoming environment where they are included, accepted and can enjoy the many benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle.

With the support of almost 3,000 volunteers, we support over 7,700 athletes in 58 local regions right across Australia. Special Olympics Australia offer weekly training in 16 national sports as well as pathways to regional, state, national and international competition. Everyone is welcome to participate and develop according to their needs. It doesn't matter whether they want to have fun in their local community or aspire to compete in international competition.

The real success of Special Olympics Australia is that we put the focus back on to people's abilities and emphasise what they can achieve, rather than the obstacles they face.
