When on land little penguins require burrows or nesting boxes for protection from predators, a safe place to rest and to raise their chicks. Nesting boxes are located throughout the Phillip Island little penguin colony to encourage penguins back to disturbed natural habitat while these sites are revegetated following historical human disturbance. New research, carried out by the Phillip Island Nature Parks Research Department, reveals nesting boxes to be an effective management tool for conserving little penguins.
