Closing the Health Gap for Indigenous Australians

Menzies School of Health Research exists to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequity in Australia particularly for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and disadvantaged populations.  We do this through:

  • Delivering scientific excellence and advancing knowledge in health research and education

  • Improving prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease and ill health

  • Building Indigenous health workforce capacity

As Australia’s leader in Indigenous and tropical health research Menzies School of Health Research (Menzies) has for 30 years worked hand in hand with Indigenous people in over 60 rural and remote communities across Australia and in developing communities throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

We have honed respectful, culturally sensitive ways of working – others now follow our lead in this regard. Our collective and considerable wisdom, acquired in communities across Australia, positions Menzies uniquely to lead other agencies in a redoubled push to ‘close the gap’ between Indigenous and non-Indigenous health and wellbeing in this generation.
