There are only around 180 Indigenous medical practitioners currently working in Australia. Of these, only a handful have research training. Similar gaps exist in nursing and across the health professions.
At Menzies, we have the vision to build a workforce of Aboriginal and Tores Strait Islander Australians as leaders in health research.
Indigenous staff are core to effective delivery of health services to Indigenous Australians. Menzies works in partnership with over 60 Indigenous communities and our 30 year track record shows us that Indigenous research leadership research capacity within communities is not at the level that it should be. This needs to change.
