Trix was found alone, dodging traffic, in country Victoria with no mother or farm house in sight. Despite being illegal, it is not uncommon for ewes being transported to slaughter to be pregnant and to give birth during transport. Perhaps tiny Trix had been on one of these trucks and had fallen off – this is something that will never be known for sure. Fortunately for Trix, a kind person took her into their care and delivered her to a local vet clinic who then contacted Lamb Care Australia.
Approximately 15 million lambs die on Australian farms every year during their first 48 hours of life. Lamb Care Australia is a not for profit organisation that fosters and rehomes some of these lambs who are born during the lambing season across Victoria.
