At some point each year, more than 4 million Australians are in crisis, dealing with the anguish and despair of not knowing where their next meal is coming from for themselves and their families. It’s hard to believe this is happening in the ‘lucky country’. It’s a predicament largely hidden by stigma and shame, but the reality is we’re all likely to know someone who is affected. It’s not just people on the street, but people in your street.
Foodbank restores hope to people who are struggling by rescuing and sourcing food and groceries from farmers, manufacturers and retailers and distributing them through front line charities around the country to people in need.
As the largest hunger relief organisation in Australia, Foodbank has the scale and capacity to address the country’s hunger crisis. In spite of our best efforts, however, only 36% of our frontline charities are meeting the full needs of the people they assist. This is why, with your help, we strive to do more every day.
