SEAS AND GREETINGS - Wish upon an 8 arm cuddle for Christmas. Southern Calamari Squid are remarkably beautiful in the sea and delightful on a plate!
Growing to 50cm and 4kg, these intelligent molluscs hunt fish and shrimp. They swim using fins and jet propulsion and use colour change and squirts of ink for defence. Males deposit sperm packets in the female's gill cavity and she lays finger-like strings of eggs amongst seaweed. They are found in New Zealand and Southern Australia.
