‘Cultivating Community’ is a not-for-profit organisation that has grown out of supporting community garden projects in inner-city public housing estates. It has evolved into an organisation promoting and supporting the development of food security and urban agriculture projects across the entire community.
Cultivating Community is currently working with 19 public housing community gardens supporting over 800 households, 9 school kitchen gardens, a community food centre and food waste initiatives and are developing a number of other community food systems projects.
The purpose of Cultivating Community Inc is to provide relief from poverty for public and community housing tenants and others living in poverty in Victoria through improving access to healthy, affordable, culturally appropriate food.Our work is based around encouraging the development of sustainable food systems and promoting the cultural richness of food, plants and people through community food projects.
Cultivating Community consists of a Board, paid workers and volunteers.
