Cara at MacKillop
Cara at MacKillop provides specialised accommodation, care and support to vulnerable young people and pregnant/parenting young women between the ages of 12 and 18 through our Residential and Home Based Care programs.

Our Outreach program supports young people from our Out of Home Care programs after turning 18 years old.

The name Cara, refers to the Italian meaning of the word –‘beloved, pure, friend’, and provides a therapeutic model of care for young girls aged between 12-18 who are experiencing extreme difficulties in their lives.

With the support of government and community partners, Cara assists young women who have suffered trauma and abuse to meet the challenges of their life. Cara has held the belief that all young women in care require unconditional love, guidance and support whilst their day to day physical, psychological and spiritual needs are met within a safe homely environment. In addition, each young person in care has the inherent right to protection, developmental opportunities and the provision of quality services, irrespective of class, cultural background, education or religion.

Cara believes that all young women deserve the opportunity to develop self-worth, self-respect and a sense of their own identity and will work towards encouraging them to develop the skills necessary to reach their individual goals and realise their potential.

At Cara, we recognise that each young woman is unique and has the right to be safe and to feel safe. We also acknowledge the importance of the girls having the opportunity to have fun, to experience life as an adolescent and to be offered the same opportunities and respect as other young people within the community.
