Asian Emergency Appeal

The last week in September began with Cyclone Ketsana dumping record levels of rain on Manila and surrounding areas of the Philippines. The cyclone then tore across the South China Sea and struck Central Vietnam, Southern Laos and North Eastern Cambodia late on Tuesday. Very early Wednesday morning, an earthquake-triggered tsunami struck Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga and on Wednesday afternoon, a major earthquake struck Sumatra in Indonesia, causing massive loss of life. On Thursday there was a further earthquake in Sumatra. CARE has deployed emergency teams to Indonesia and all countries affected by Typhoon Ketsana, and is distributing life-saving materials to survivors. Clean water, food and sanitation are top priorities. CARE is also distributing jerry cans and water purification kits, as well as blankets, clothing, hygiene kits and materials to build community latrines.

A $50 donation to the Asian Emergency Appeal will enable us to continue our life-saving work.
