Many people seeking asylum have been left to survive in our community with little or no income, without Medicare, and with no work rights. At the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, we provide people with a free hot lunch every weekday. These meals are prepared by volunteers from ingredients largely donated to us.
Through our community lunches, people enjoy a nutritious meal as part of a supportive community. A simple a thing as lunch with others can be such a powerful antidote to the feelings of isolation and depression which can overwhelm people who are experiencing a particularly uncertain moment in their lives.
