Founded in 1996, Assistance Dogs Australia is a national charity that trains Labradors and Golden Retrievers to increase freedom, mobility and independence for people suffering physical and developmental disabilities.
We’re unique as Australia’s only truly national service dog organisation. This means we’re able to offer our services and dogs to potential recipients wherever they happen to be. And in keeping this service to the very highest standards, we’re proud that we were the first Australians to be accredited by Assistance Dogs International - giving our donors, recipients and dogs the confidence that they’re getting the very best.
To train a dog to the level we require takes two years and can cost in excess of $30,000, putting hope out of reach for many Australians. But, as a registered charity, we’re committed to putting a meaningful life back in reach of the many people in need. We’ve already donated, free of charge, over 160 Assistance Dogs across Australia and with your help and support we can continue this very im-paw-tant work.
Your support will help us teach each dog up to 50 specialized and life-saving commands to help people with a range of disabilities – from physically debilitating illnesses such as paraplegia, cerebral palsy or multiple sclerosis, children with severe autism to service men and women diagnosed with PTSD.
We train dogs (and people) so they can work together as teams; letting people in need live more fulfilled lives..
