Childhood Cancer Support is a Queensland based family focused not-for-profit charity that supports regional and rural families when their children are diagnosed with cancer. For more than 44 years the organisation has provided free accommodation in our family-styled units and a 'home away from home' safe environment for families when they are required to live in Brisbane whilst their child receives life-saving oncology treatment at the Queensland Children's Hospital in Brisbane.
In addition to providing vital accommodation services, Childhood Cancer Support provides transport services to and from the hospital - all free of charge for children being treated for cancer and their families. Childhood Cancer Support is the main provider of patient transport services for paediatric oncology families in Brisbane. Childhood Cancer Support is needed now more than ever by the regional children and their families!
Childhood Cancer Support has not received government funding in its 44 year history and relies purely on the generosity of donors and the community to provide this vital service to paediatric oncology families in Queensland. Families come to the Childhood Cancer Support accommodation facilities from throughout QLD, Northern NSW, NT, SA and from the Pacific Islands to utilise the free services during their cancer journey with their children.
Childhood Cancer Support provides an on-site Family Social Worker qho provides emotional support to all family members. Most families are rarely able to go home during their treatment period. By providing the children and their families with homely accommodation, this reduces the burden and related stress experienced by families during this critical time. The accommodation facilities and support also opens up opportunities for other family members and friends to visit and contribute love and support.
