Whales and dolphins migrate over large distances. During the last century, many larger whale species became endangered due to commercial whaling. Although currently protected by an international moratorium on whaling, most of these species that frequent the Pacific Islands Region remain endangered or vulnerable.
A Conservation of Migratory Species (CMS) regional agreement for the Conservation of Cetaceans and their Habitats in the Pacific Islands Region now covers this vast region.
Working with countries signed-up to the CMS treaty, WDCS will achieve better protection for the breeding grounds vital to migratory whales, to minimize dolphin deaths in fishing nets, and reduce the impacts of noise pollution. But we need your help.
