Bears are some of the world's best-loved animals, but they are also subjected to many different forms of cruelty and exploitation. In bear-baiting competitions bears forced to fight for their lives against dogs that endlessly attack in the name of ‘sport’. In some countries there are many cruel and outdated ‘zoos’ that have held bears in squalid cages just a few metres square their entire lives. In other countries bears are taught degrading and painful ‘tricks’ for tourist entertainment, and in yet more countries bears are hunted and farmed for their fur, meat, gall bladders and paws.
