The Song Room
The Song Room vision is that all Australian children have the opportunity to participate in music and the arts to enhance their education, personal development and community involvement. It focuses on children and communities disadvantaged through a range of circumstance including socio-economic disadvantage, remote and urban Indigenous communities, learning, health or disability challenges, geographic isolation, behavioural problems and recent migration and English as a Second Language.
It is estimated up to 3 out of 4 children in Government Primary Schools have no music teachers.
Strong international research has demonstrated the significant benefits of arts-based programs for children, such as those offered by The Song Room, including improved learning outcomes - concentration & language skills; enhanced social outcomes - communication, teamwork, classroom participation & school retention; enhanced personal development - self esteem & self confidence.
