Your gift will pay for 10 of the 45,000 rivets required to restore our steamer!

John Oxley is the last coastal steamer in Australia. The dedicated volunteers of Sydney Heritage Fleet have been working to authentically restore her to her former glory since 2004. To ensure she remains true to her original construction we are individually shaping every one of her hull plates and painstakingly hand riveting them in place. We plan to have her back in the water by mid 2010.

Fifty years ago, if you wanted to transport just about anything or anybody in Australia it went by sea. Kids to school and beef, lamb & wool to market, all went on vessels very like this one. John Oxley was used to transport navigation buoys and as a relief pilot vessel in Morton Bay.
