Clean Ocean Foundation
Wastewater outfalls are the single greatest source of ocean pollution in Australia, yet virtually every Australian would have swum, surfed or fished near one of the 144 outfalls around our country.
Freshwater from inland areas is piped to our coastal cities, used once, then dumped into the ocean via environmentally damaging outfalls. It’s a completely unsustainable practice during Australia’s worst drought on record. Clean Ocean works to see this water recycled and reused.
The Foundation also operates a range of community, educational, research & scientific programs. Its primary focus is conducting a concerted advocacy campaign in relation to closing the Boags Rocks outfall at Gunnamatta Beach, the largest by volume shoreline outfall in Australia.
Major research includes establishing a National Database for every outfall in the country. This will be the blueprint for communities, local, state and federal government to move toward closing these polluting pipes forever.
