CanTeen
Every year in Australia, thousands of young people are suddenly confronted with a cancer diagnosis. It is difficult to put into words the overwhelming nature of this experience. Shock, disbelief, anger, fear – trying to cope with these mixed emotions can throw young people completely off balance and have a devastating impact on their future.
CanTeen runs over 250 support programs across Australia every year to help 12-24 year olds deal with the emotional, physical and practical issues of living with cancer, and take back control of their lives. These programs deliver vital psychosocial support and connect young people going through similar experiences. CanTeen Members are cancer patients themselves, the brothers and sisters, or sons and daughters of cancer patients, and those grieving the loss of a loved one.
In addition, CanTeen provides counselling, carries out research, and develops practical resources including an award winning website www.nowwhat.org.au.
