A lot of us value more than just a coastal view, we love the sea itself. But the sea that we know and love is changing. Once treated as a dumping ground and considered inexhaustible, our oceans are now in crisis and need our help. The Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS) is the voice for Australia's ocean wildlife. We work on the big issues concerning the sea on behalf of the community. We work to make our fisheries sustainable and to create marine national parks, places in the sea where our wildlife is safe from harm. We work on protecting and recovering threatened ocean animals like sharks, sea lions, dugongs and turtles.
We are an independent charity and have defended Australia's oceans for over forty years. Our first major campaign in the 1960s sucessfully prevented mining on the Great Barrier Reef.
We produce Australia's Sustainable Seafood Guide - Australia's only independent, comprehensive guide to choosing seafood - www.sustainableseafood.org.au
