Our vision is a society committed to the prevention of dementia, while valuing and supporting people living with dementia.
At Alzheimer’s Australia Vic we work with people with dementia, their family and carers to understand dementia and put in place strategies to cope. This is provided free of charge.
Dementia is a medical condition and a social one. It attracts stigma, social isolation and personal discrimination. And it affects the whole family
In Victoria:
* There are 53 new cases of dementia every day
* 66,000 Victorians living with dementia right now
* Dementia is the leading cause of disability
* Dementia is the 3rd leading cause of death
* The number of people living with dementia will double over the next ten years
Until there is a cure, service delivery such as counselling and education will come under increasing pressure to meet the needs of the escalating numbers of Victorians living dementia.
