Oxfam Australia

Oxfam are working hard around the world, and at home with our Indigenous Australians, fighting against poverty and injustice.

We have established programs that are providing long-term solutions to communities in need. We are currently responding to emergencies, campaigning for lasting change and empowering communities to work their way out of poverty in more than 27 countries. Oxfam works to improve the lives of thousands of people through increased income, better crops, more food, cleaner water, less disease, greater access to health care and education, and increased power to speak up on important issues.

Oxfam Australia is again urging all Australians to support National Close the Gap Day (NCTGD) on 21 March 2013. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People still die 10–17 years younger than other Australians.

NCTGD is about highlighting the ‘gap’ that exists between Indigenous and non-Indigenous life expectancy. It’s a way for all Australians to join together and remind our political leaders of their commitments to close the life expectancy gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
