Valentines Day Bettongs - $10.00

Rufous Bettongs were once widely distributed in NSW but were greatly reduced by droughts and the introduction of foxes. They have now retreated to only a few areas in the state. The tiny rufous bettong measures up to 38cm from head to tail and weighs about 3kg. Both species suffered greatly from the introduction of cats and foxes. In Northern NSW scientists observed that they still survive in sustainable numbers where Dingos keep the feral predators at bay. Wherever foxes have replaced the Dingo, the Bettongs are also disappearing. Help us prepare a recovery plan for this threatened species.
